Introduction of new library software

The Bamberg State Library will introduce new library software on 27th June 2024. Therefore, there will be some changes in the weeks and months surrounding this date.

Introducing new library software has a profound impact on all work processes and involves a great deal of effort. This will result in some changes. We apologize for these inconveniences and ask for your understanding:

  • since 1st May 2024:
    Until further notice, media from external libraries can no longer be ordered to the State Library via interlibrary loan. Please use the University Library and order media for interlibrary loan from one of the branch libraries.
     
  • since 17th May 2024:
    Until further notice, reservations for media from the State Library are no longer possible.
     
  • since 26th June 2024:
    • Media from the State Library can no longer be ordered via the Bamberg Catalog.
    • Loan periods for media from the State Library that were borrowed before 26th June 2024 can no longer be extended. This also applies to automatic renewals.
    • For the time being, media from the State Library can only be ordered by email, telephone or in person on site and can only be consulted in the reading room of the State Library. Until further notice, it is not possible to borrow media to take home, or to order them to the branch libraries of the University Library or to the Metropolitan Chapter Library.
    • Until further notice, media from the University Library and the Metropolitan Chapter Library can no longer be ordered from the State Library or consulted there.
       
  • since 3rd July 2024:
    Media from the State Library can be found in its own new catalog.

The library software that had been in use in the Bamberg State Library for more than two decades needs to be replaced by a completely new system. A large part of our library's operational processes are controlled by this software, from the purchase and cataloging of media to the management of the holdings in our stacks and to the cataloge that users consult for research and borrowing.

The University Library and the Metropolitan Chapter Library will continue to share the same library software for the time being and will only introduce a new system at a later date. The excellent cooperation between the Bamberg libraries and the Bamberg State Library will be continued in future.
