Registration required to use the new library software

New library software has been in use at the Bamberg State Library since July 2024. To use it, you will need to re-register and reactivate your previous library card.

Your previous library account, as you know it and which you can log into via the Bamberg Catalog, is now only valid for the Bamberg University Library and the Library of the Bamberg Metropolitan Chapter.

To enable you to use the holdings of the Bamberg State Library via our own new catalog, we need to create a new user account for you in our current library software.

In any case, you must bring the following original documents with you:

  • a valid identity card with a current German registration address
  • OR a valid passport together with a registration certificate from your municipality
  • AND, in the case of non-EU nationals, a residence permit or visa.

Minors (aged 16 and over) must present additional documents.

You have the option of reactivating your previous library card; please bring this with you as well. This would give you a single library card – and therefore a single individual user number – for two library accounts in two different and independent software systems, namely that of the University Library and that of the State Library.

After registration, your date of birth will be set as your password in eight digits without dots (in the form DDMMYYYYY). Example: If your birthday is 3rd October 1990, the password is 03101990. Please change the default password as soon as possible.

In this context, please note our privacy notice on general library services.

To be able to use all functions (e.g. reserve, order, display loan period) of the catalog, please log in with your user number (also known as "user ID", which can be be found on your library card, starting with 013) at the top right at Sign in. Once you have logged in, your name will appear at the top right.

Media borrowed from the State Library can no longer be returned to the branch libraries of the University Library or the Library of the Metropolitan Chapter – and vice versa.

It is again possible to send media between the State Library on the one hand and the branch libraries of the University Library or the Library of the Metropolitan Chapter on the other via the local lending service. However, reference collections, journal volumes and currently borrowed media from these two libraries cannot be ordered to or reserved at the State Library. Literature that is not available in Bamberg can be ordered via interlibrary loan from external libraries.

We ask for your understanding if not everything runs smoothly over the next few weeks, as we also have to familiarize ourselves with the new library software and develop new routines. If you have any questions regarding research in our new library catalog or registration, please do not hesitate to contact us on site, by telephone on 0951 95503-101 or by email.
